Atpro

Well should have the atpro today, since its raining and cold. My luck. Me and my daughter found a nice 15 acre field that has seen a lot of traffic the last 75 yrs and was military used before that. Supposedly hunted out, but we found about 6$ in change and eye glasses and sunglasses and collectors pins, in about 2 hours so I think hunted out might be an over exaggeration. I'm deffinately thinking that the atpro 8.5x11 inch coil will get some leg work on this one.

Helping our future generation...

Our nationwide event is a team effort. Everyone knows a metal detector can pay for itself, and there is more lost money than is in circulation today. All the times I have dug up clad, I am actually excited to dig every penny during the month of may. I dig clad everywhere, every time I hunt. I honestly can not think of a better purpose for it. If you haven't joined in on this yet check it out.  ~{Dirt Fishing}~  only modern clad is donated to  childhood cancer awareness somthing that means so little could make a huge difference to these little guys and girls. What could possibly make this hobby any better than to think the month of may, we will make a difference.

Hunting with old fiends..

Got out today for a couple hours with some old friends. We hit a couple yards in town a lil bit. Got abunch of matchbox cars, bout $2 in clad, another key. And it wasn't thirty mins after I left one of them got a 14k gold ring. That's just how my luck goes. Lol. Had a ball though. Hunt five mins. Sit for five mins. I am so looking forward to some weekend hunts this summer.

I hate waiting...

I think tomorrow if it don't rain early, I'm gonna take the coinmastergt with some buddies to a lot that is supposedly hunted out. April, 14 I will have the atpro, can't wait to get my hands on that baby. I haven't found hardly any bad reviews on it. I have had many good machines, but they weren't what I wanted for how I hunt. The v3i is an awesome machine. I like to see what's out there, and that machine is top in its class. Atpro, I am excited to see first hand what she's got. And I will probably post my opinion, don't hold that against me. Lol. If you haven't checked out our event check it out, what do you got to lose.  ~{Dirt Fishing}~

Going atpro

Well I've decided to go with an atpro. I like the submersible part a lot. And the 15khz is a good medium. I am really anxious to give this machine a run.

Could change things..

You know people really don't have good thoughts about someone with a metal detector. They don't realize how much trash we pull out of the ground in a day. They think we're greedy, selfish, and just out for ourselves. I have went to get permission before and they act like I'm trying to steal something from them. Well the event on https://www.facebook.com/groups/Dirtfishing/ could change that. If just a hundred people get in this and each person only finds $10 that's a thousand dollars going towards a cure for childhood cancer. I can't think of a better purpose for all the clad I pull out of the ground. And honestly who can say there hobby donated x amount towards a good cause. This will be a group effort. The more people involved in this event the larger impact it will have. If you have a metal detector what possible excuse could you have not to contribute to our young future. This even makes the clad a treasure for one young person. Join in this nation wide group event. Its time we change the way people see our hobby. It can make a difference and its what we love.

Charity event.. Hunt for a cure..

Join our group, and get in on this hunt. In this even your digging could save a life. May will be the month our hobby and passion will make a difference. No entry fee. No traveling. Check it out... https://www.facebook.com/groups/Dirtfishing/

!!!!Group Event!!!!

OK folks, I've been working on how to organize a group event on ~{Dirt fishing}~ on Facebook. The only trouble is everybody being able and having time to get involved. So what I have come up with is ~{Dirt Fishing}~s first Childhood Cancer Metal Detectorist Face-Off. Everybody will be able to join in at your own time. This event will be a month long. All participants will keep up with all clad and modern change you find in this month, trade it in for a money order made out to the charity. When all money orders are tallied everyone that was involved will be entered in to win event prizes, and the person with the largest amount will automatically win. There will be no entry fee, or any cost. You will not have to travel. This will be a when you can event throughout the month. And it will benefit children with cancer. There will be no reason to miss this event. We are working out the details of which month will be best for this event.

More rain.

You I'm start to think its some sort of conspiracy. All the snow and now rain. It seems like a plot to keep people indoors. I'm thinking might have to break out the hip waiders.

My opinion and thoughts of upgrades.

I have been around metal detectors and used them for along time. My grandfather was a whites dealer since the 70s he upgraded every year. I have used all kinds of detectors in all price ranges. When someone says you need to upgrade that does not mean throw out all kinds of money. If you like coin hunting, there are machines for that, beaches, yep, relics, that too. Even picking up gold in micron levels. And unless your making some sort of career out of it there is no reason to throw that money away. I enjoy finding coins, relics and jewelry. I have had the v3i for about 7 months, and it is an awesome machine. But all my experience, and knowledge of this machine. I have tweaked this machine to its max with custom programs. For what I enjoy if I had to recommend an upgrade for someone with the same interest, and a budget. I would say go with coinmastergt its $300 bucks. It'll hit a quarter at 9 to 10 inches depending on soil. And its fast. If you have a lil more experience and more money the mx5 is a step up with 14.25 kHz. All the depth you will need for $500. When picking a machine find one that's comfortable. Complication brings confusion. The faster you can learn it the better its gonna do. There are a lot of people that will say if you don't spend $5000 on a detector you ain't finding it. Well its bs. If a machine has a good ground balance and beach mode you can find anything a high end detector will find. Your machine will just pay for itself a lot faster. Passion is what makes this hobby great not money. Hopefully this will help some in making there decision. If it offended anyone I do apologize I just can't see a reason to lie.

Tell city, indiana

Well going to do some hunting in tell city, Indiana tomorrow. Not sure were exactly, but I'm up for the fun of it. I'm thinking the coinmastergt in town, and the v3i in the country. I know city probably won't be as trashy, I might just have wait and see when I get there.

Slowly but surely

The group funds are up to 60$ from the adson the blog. Mark Seeley told me today that the roman coins would arrive in 7-10 days, and we'll be giving one of those away. And as soon as I can sell the v3i I'll make my first order, sorry its taking so long to those that are waiting. And thanks to all those who are visiting our ads. Every little bit is helping, I wish I had the $$ to just this were I want it to. I am so looking forward to giving away some awesome prizes.

Eastern ky. Trip.

Well my wife is pretty sure she wants to take a trip to eastern kentucky. I'm thinking that it might be a good hunting trip. I'm still doing some research trying to figure out which equipment I would need. I been reading that there's gold on them borders. Might need to take the sluice box. My daughter is going to Indiana for a week and taking her ace 250. She's hoping her grandpa will take her to some good places.

Thinking of selling

Well I'm thinking about selling my v3i, I'm thinking about dropping to the mxt pro. I think it will be easier to handle in some of the places I go. I'm constantly worried about even getting a scratch on the v3i, and really just need something to get into the tight places with.

A whole lot of aluminum...

I think I dug up a case of old mountain dew cans. And nothing makes your day like digging a foot down and finding this.

Dowsing with lightning...

I seen a post were a guy said he got best results dowsing when lightning was just in the distance. Now I'm not a genius, but what in the world could possibly make anyone think that standing in a lightning storm with a metal antenna filled with positive charged crystals was going to be a good idea. Turns out the lightning was closer than he thought.

A lil more clad..

Went back to the money pit for a couple hours, and of course about 5$ in clad. A relay for life keychain. I played with high pro on the v3i, that was deffinately a learning experience, but I understood a lot more this time.

It looked easy enough.

I did not realize how much that homestead had changed since Google took that picture. After digging in the wrong place for an hour, we finally got to the right spot and that circle is a lot bigger on the ground, and gotta cut my way to the other that one tree is actually five and surrounded by briars. Maybe tomorrow.

This the new pic. Of the old cabin site. Blue=silver green=gold orange=copper white=unknown. I'm going tomorrow to start the detecting. The last time I had a spot dowsed he had a hit on silver and I found silver ore. Any thoughts on how this will turn out.

A friend

A friend from england is sending me a few of these 1800 yr. Old roman coins. He asked me if we had these over here, I told him that people over here was trading bat shit and feathers for money when these coins were made. I have only read about very few being found in the U.S. I do believe these will be the oldest in my little collection.

Well I'm gonna see if I can help a friend of a friend find a lost earring at eleven. Its a stud, so Ive made some adjustments on the v3i to hit on a tiny stud. As long as its bigger than this little thing I should get a hit on it.

Hunting tomorrow..

57° tomorrow, I have got to get out there and swing a little. I can't possibly go another day just thinking about it. So me my wife and daughter are going down to the local money pit to do a little digging. I know its there, there's been well over a million people in this little area in the last 20yrs and 90% were drunk. Something good was dropped.

So ready for warmer days.

I really don't like these one or two day teases. 70° then the next day 34°. I think somebody should shoot the groundhog. Hang the weatherman. And squash all that global warming crap. The last time I checked on signs for global warming, frostbite was not on that list. I'm really starting to think that global warming is a political catastrophe. BC I don't know about the rest of the globe but it is deffinately not warming here very fast.

Woohoo.

The detector or the owner...

I've been talking to some of my friends who've been metal detecting for 30yrs two of which have v3i. And its official, it doesn't matter the detector. If you know the machine you will find anything a high end detector will find. It is true the more functionality and less understanding is a path to lazyness. The more time spent with a good brand budget detector the better the understanding of how it works. I've played with my v3i and watched the videos and read the books and had friends give me pointers, now about a hundred hours with the coil on the ground, and I'm finally getting it to do what I want it to do. Persistence persistence persistence....

One of those days...

Wow. I think its been more tiring thinking about metal detecting than actually metal detecting. Where do I wanna go? What am I looking for?  All the reading and research. I am wore plumb out. When I do get out there its gonna be a good day.

Posted via Blogaway

A short break.

Well I've decided to take a day break from metal detecting, and I have to say I'm looking forward to getting back to it already. I'm thinking about all the places I wanna go over again. I know the first run or two on the ground is mostly junk and clad. Metal detecting is good excersize for persistence and patients. I was never any good with either, but this lil hobby I just can't quit I know there is something at all these places. I'm determined to find it. I believe there could be something to the mental detecting, if you've read it you know what it means.

An awsome day.

Well 70° today was amazing. Cass, chris, and myself we probably got about $15 in clad, I got a roadrunner ride for crippled children token, and a silver broach. It was hard to hunt I must wanted to sit and enjoy the day. Tomorrow off again, going to some new ground again tomorrow on the Ohio river.

Posted via Blogaway

50° at 9am

Well it looks like today will be a good one. Now just to figure out were it'll be good at. You know when we're kids how much fun it sounds to be a treasure hunter. Did anybody ever think man that looks tiring. I don't know if its the walking, the digging, or just the mental excitement every time you get that good strong hit. Whatever it is I don't think there's a hobby that competes with whether metal detecting or prospecting. This is one of the most rewarding hobbies I have ever had. Half my family is into it now, and they enjoy as much as I do if not more. My two daughters are pretty mad if I go without them. And it tickles me to see them dig up stuff that excites them as much as it does finding my own. Well I hope all of you get the weather your waiting for, and happy hunting to you all.

A little skeptical...

My grandfather used a UAR dowsing rod, and he swore by it. He found things that nobody else with a metal detector was finding. So I bought one a few months back. It has taken us places that we could not get permission to hunt on. Anyway I was playing with it here at my house and kept getting what I thought to be hits. I then called on a friend of mine who is big into map dowsing. I sent him the aerials and he got hits in the same places plus some. So I setup the v3i and went looking. Found a chunk of silver ore exactly were one of the hits came from. Was it coincidence. Well one of the other places he got a hit is not on my property but if I get on the edge of my property I do get a light hit. On both gold and silver. Now I am hoping to get permission to hunt this small spot were the hits are at. I believe if silver and gold coins are found here I will stroke, but I will be a true believer of dowsing. Anybody got thoughts. Here's the dowsed pic.

Train depot.

I got a message from a guy tonight on treasure net. He lives a couple counties over and he's wanting to come over here with his 8yr old son and hunt an old train depot with us this weekend. I never thought a person could meet so many people metal detecting. It really takes metal detecting to another level getting to hunt with so many different people. And you can really learn a lot. See other machines in action and strategies to hunting. Really looking forward to this summer. Hopefully have some really good hunts and meet even more fellow detectorists.

Posted via Blogaway

No good today...

We went out to enjoy the 58° day, they forgot to mention the 40mph gust. We did get a lil more clad and a couple coppers. Hoping tomorrow is a lil less windy. Had high hopes for today, but that's how it goes.

Posted via Blogaway

20-20

Well today should be along day. We are gonna dig 20*20 grids today at a place were 20k people are locked in and drunk as hell for an entire weekend, every year for over 20 yrs. We're gonna dig it all. If its hunted out should be nothing right. Well see. It should be interesting. I'll post pics of everything this evening.

Hunted out.

Its a pretty big motivation breaker when everywhere you go your told its been hunted out. 3x so far its been hunted out. Well the man that hunted these places out was a whites dealer from the lat 70s he had top of the line equipment every time it came out. This mans name was Robert ( peewee) Dempsey. And when he dug a whole it was a sure bet. He didn't dig the clad. This man was my grandpa, I only hope he left something for us to find.

Bounty hunter...

You know I have to say this. I have a v3i and coinmastergt by whites, and an ace 250 and my friend chris has the bounty hunter tracker 4 and the signal meter doesn't even work and he knows exactly what it is just by the tones. He wants to upgrade to a better machine. I told him if I knew my machines that good I wouldn't upgrade, or at least stay with the same brand so the tones stay the same. I don't think I would fix it if it ain't broke.

Mx5 or coinmasterGT..

I'm drawn between the mx5 and the coinmasterGT. They both are sweet detectors, but the coinmaster would be easier for my wife to get the hang of, but mx5 can be set up to turn on an go with all the extras. Nice price difference, but they'll both last along time.

Posted via Blogaway

Thinking mx5.

Well I think I'm gonna get the mx5 in the next couple days to add to the arsenal. I have read a lot of good things, and I believe it'll made a good one for when my wife goes out with me.

I've seen a lot of people talking about the atpro, and I'm curious. What is your preference and why. All feedback welcome even if its not one of these two.

Hunting...

Idk which is better, hunting fields and old home sites and not getting a lot of hits. Or hunting ground were you get a lot of junk with occasional clad. Clad buys batteries that's about all I can think its good for. But those old relics can make a very good investment one day. How do you hunt?????

the river beach

Well today was an amazing day as far as weather. As far as the hunt. Well nothing but junk today found a lot of smelted metal on the beach. We have decided its gonna take several more trips. I have a question though. Is sand like dirt. Or is it harder to detect when its wet. Our signals were all over the place. I have never hunt in sand and it was different. Any info would be great.

Going out.

Tomorrow is the day. The snow is not completely gone, but close enough. I'm going to a beach on the Ohio river were the river gets run hard for about fifty miles before it hits this half mile beach and turns hard right into the damn. We have found everything from buckets of nails to saddles on this beach. I really hope smaller things have hit this beach too. We shall find out tomorrow.

It is awesome to feel and see the sun. Snow is melting fast. The time is coming fast. Gear is cleaned and charged up and ready to go. Could not be more ready. The excitement is getting to me. Almost here...

Monday and Tuesday. Its gonna be over 60° I absolutely can't wait. It has been our worst winter in ten yrs. And this year we have several people from around the country coming for some good hunts. Kruse smith from archeametology in Missouri. Chris Krez from Wisconsin are a couple. It should be a great year. We are anxious to get out there and find history. And to show off our finds.
Posted via Blogaway

Snow is slowly melting...

This snow is holding on very good. If there were no plans it would be gone already. But since we are looking forward to this river spot its putting up a fight. But 59° Saturday. That means it'll be go time. I will post all finds from there in this thread. I wish luck to all who get out this week. And stay safe, and happy hunting.

Rivers...

I have been doing a lot of reading on rivers, and they seem to be a metal detectorist dream. Roman coins dating back to 133A.D found on the river banks in Kentucky. I don't know what I would do if I found one of those. And it seems that a whole lot of treasures were hidden close to the riverbanks. I'm starting to wonder if I need to change my strategy. The Ohio river had a lot of pirates and counterfeiters in its lifetime. I'm thinking that all rivers deserve a little more attention. Just a thought.

The warmth

Well its slowly coming up to the mid to high fifties this week. I am so looking forward to getting out there. Its kinda like Christmas I don't know what to do first. I guess I'll just have to jump on one and go with it. I hope everyone gets to get out this week. Good luck to all.

Later were ambushed and all union soldiers were killed. No one ever found the silver it was only know that it was between Henderson,ky. And paducah, ky. A lot of ground but could be worth it.

With this weather warming up I'll be posting a lot more pics and video's of the detecting and dowsing. Last year was pretty good, but this year should be awesome. We have a lot of new very old ground that hasn't been touched in decades. All support is greatly welcome and comments as well. Thanks again.

Tect o trak.

This little app is really handy for the places to big to hunt in one trip. I've been using this one for about a year, and its extremely helpful.

Potential?

Looks like it would be good. Have to find the owner and a lil history, and see what happens.

I use a whites v3i, and bullseye2 pin pointer.

What's your choice, and favorite places to hunt.

Pics of some finds this year so far.

Whole roll of nickels in one whole.

About a week ago was a awsome couple days.

We didn't have any major finds but after this winter some clad was awesome.I am so looking forward to the high 50s this week. We are going to an old school house, its one room school house, I'm really looking forward to hitting this lil acre.
